Junior TAA Club Series at Whittle Dene 12th July 2008 Match report written by Les Greham TAA Junior Rep and LPAA member |
Clubs attending were, Ferryhill A.C. ,Lakeside A.C, Leazes Park A.C. Big Waters. Total number f Juniors who fished was 18. It was nice to see so many junirs turn up for the club series and with there club reps, mothers and fathers, without there help to transport the junirs to Whittle Dene. And every one on time. The draw took place at 10am and very angler was given a can of pop and bag of crisps for the 4 hour match. Which saw a rush to get the cars and get everything out some even bought the kitchen sink!!!!, we hear so much bad news about kids today but angling does help a lot, watching them setting up there tackle boxes, and rods remembering the safety instructions told to them before the draw, made for the safe days fishing. The match started dead on 11am, with the sound of the groundbait going in, off they went, gudgeon were coming out straight away and this was the main catch off the day in most nets, apart from one Big Waters junior, landing an Eel, ouch its biting me, as he tried to get hold of it but help was on hand to get it into his keepnet so with a smile possibly thinking he was in the lead. The fishing was slow, just the odd roach, dace, perch were to been seen, but the gudgeon kept being caught, as we found from the weigh in at 3pm, four juniors did not weigh in, but all day we heard how fast bites were. Before the results were given out there was a number people I had to thank for there help in making today special. Northumbrian Water for the venue, the TAA Committee, for there kind donation to the peg draw which saw all the juniors receive a prize for there attendance, the tackle shops who give so generously, McDermotts of Ashington, Angling Leisure Sport, Anglers world, I.D. Fishing and also to Ferryhill AC. Special awards were given to our only female angler from the Ferryhill Club, and also to the youngest junior, 8 years old from the Leazes Park club, and the best fish of the day was the Eel by the big waters junior. They were given a main tackle prize to add to there trophy. As were the winning finalists. Results on the day were. 1st Robert Brown, Ferryhill AC. Weight 1lb-7oz. Again all the Juniors and there clubs proved that Angling was the winner on the day, and the juniors knowledge and enthusiasm of angling gives the sport of angling a good future. Many thanks also goes to Colin Rutter for his support and help. Thanks Les Goreham |
