2009 AGM
Whilst the 2009 LPAA AGM was as always under subscribed in numbers the meeting did give those present the chance to meet up and review 2009.
Amongst the things discussed were the ongoing bid to the lottery for the planting at Leazes, work parties for Forester’s, Steve Henderson’s capture of Quazi at an amazing 27Lb 13oz and the encouraging news that some half way decent mixed bags have been caught at Leazes (sadly not in the matches). The more formal aspects of the meeting saw no rule changes submitted; however a suggestion from the floor to hold quarterly (instead of bi-monthly) general meetings was discussed and voted in. The committee elections also saw all current post holders stay in place.
As ever the AGM also gave us the chance to recognise success in the form of our annual trophy ceremony. In a season that saw most matches down in numbers but not in the commitment of those attending it was good to see people awarded for there hard work.
A gallery of photo’s from the event is available here.
The Carp Record has gone again
Long time Leazes member Steve Henderson has smashed the club carp record by catching Quazi at an awesome 27Lb 13 Oz.
Steve's scales have been checked and the catch was witnessed by another LPAA member.
I think all LPAA members will join the commitee in congratulation Steve on an awesome catch!
2008 Match Results
This year's busy match schedule saw some good bags, the final points ended up:

3rd Mark Wilkinson 74pts
Winter series
1st John Glenright 62pts
2nd Seana Finnigan 55pts
3rd Billy Ellis 54pts
Well done to both Les and John and to everyone who took part. Well done also to Billy Ellis for organising the matches.
2008 Carp Open
Sunday the 14th saw the 2008 carp open match fished at Leazes Park. As ever this match was well attended by carpers from all over the North-East. Fergus McGrady continued an awesome season by breaking the lake record with a common of 26lb 12 oz. Fergus then had a nail biting wait to see if he would take the trophy with the eventful winner Gary Kislingbury waiting till last hour to catch his third fish to snatch the trophy.
Gary who many of you will know from McDermott’s Tackle in Ashington had a couple of chances to put the match beyond reach but showed that even experienced anglers, even those who work in a tackle shop, sometimes miss fish.
The LPAA Fisheries Officer Neil Moreland got his name of the score sheet by taking third place despite moaning all day that he had been given a duff peg.
The general feeling after the match was that everyone had a good day and enjoyed the chance to meet people from other waters and share information about carping in the region, which is why these matches was started in the first place. It was also good to see that Leazes can still get some past members to dust off their gear with Pod making his yearly pilgrimage to the park.
The LPAA would like to thank all the anglers who took part, McDermott’s Tackle who once again provided the match with prizes and Gary Kislingbury who donated tackle prizes he had bought himself.
2008 Annual Seniors
This year’s annual seniors match was won by John Glenright with a winning weight of 1lb 9oz second was Steve Preece and the spoils for third place had to be shared between Ralph Paton and Les Gorham. Well done to everyone concerned,
More Bad News for Leazes Carp Anglers
A Club member has retrieved two death rigs from the lake at Leazes and on the same day a carp was caught with almost no lips. Can we just remind all anglers but especially the carp anglers that it is your duty to ensure that your rigs are 100% safe.
The term death rig refers to any rig (including the tubing or lead core) that will not drop the lead in the event of a break off. This can be for a range of reasons including the tail rubber on lead clips being push on too tight. People using shock beads which do not allow the lead to drop off as they are too tight or the use of fixed leads.
We realise that most anglers check their rigs before casting but it would seem some do not. Checking that your rig will shed the lead only takes a couple of seconds and not doing it could cost a carp to lose its life.
With immediate affect all anglers fishing Leazes should be prepared to reel in and have their rigs checked when asked by either a member of the committee or a club bailiff. I'm sure members will understand that we don't want do this but its better than killing a carp.
Our New Website
Well, what do you think of our new website? Hopefully this one is a little easier to get around and looks a bit more modern. As some of you will know we have had a few teething problems and there is still a little bit to finish off and we need your help.
Future developments include:
A page dedicated to anglers who have caught a 20lb Leazes Carp
For this we need anglers to send any photos they have of twenty pound fish as unfortunately we lost some photos from the old site when we moved servers.
A page for your articles
Do you read fishing magazines or papers like the Angling times? Well we think you can do better! We would like members to write articles on their fishing trips, these don’t have to be about sessions at Leazes waters and don’t even have to be about coarse fishing.
So have you been fishing lately? Have you had an awesome session? Have you fallen in again? If so get typing. To start the page off we’ve added an article Club Regular Mark Wilkinson wrote for the old web site.
p.s. Don’t worry about the spelling or grammar because Patrick never does!!!!!!
Email your articles to lpaa@hotmail.co.uk
Sorting out the links page
What other websites do you use when you are on the interweb? These may be fishing sites or about anything (as long as it’s not porn!) send them with a brief description of why you like the site to lpaa@hotmail.co.uk and we might add them to the links page.
What ever you want!
Do you think we have missed anything off the site? Well if so tell us! We have room on the home page for another page and are looking for members to tell us what it should be Do you have any ideas? If so email Patrick at lpaa@hotmail.co.uk
A Fish at all cost?
It would seem that some of the carp anglers in the LPAA need to catch a fish at all cost. At least two anglers are constantly fishing so close to the island that they are requiring the services of one of the park boats to remove their tackle from either over the boom or from the trees that surround the island.
Leazes Park Lake has plenty pf open water swims so why is it that these anglers cannot accept that their casting skills are not good enough to fish close to the island and fish one of the other areas?
If you are unlucky enough to cast over the boom and are unable to retrieve your tackle members must safely pull for a break. If you feel that a carp would not be able to shed your lost rig (i.e you are fishing a death rig) please hand you membership in at the next meeting and go and fish another water.
With immediate effect any member caught using a boat whilst fishing at Leazes will be requested to attend a disciplinary hearing of the committee which could result in the member being banned.
If you can’t fish to the island safely you can’t fish to the island.
Baiting up
The committee would like to remind ALL the members of the LPAA that pre baiting is banned at Leazes. If you are not fishing the lake you are not allowed to add any bait to the water.
LPAA Juniors Page
LPAA juniors we need you!
The LPAA would like to add a juniors page to our website and who better to write it than the clubs juniors themselves. We are looking for juniors to email things like:
Catch reports
Hints and tips
Jokes (keep them clean)
Photos
So come on it’s time to show us old foggeys how to do it by emailing lpaa@hotmail.co.uk |
